Community-Based Tourism was created so it could serve as an alterative source of income for the locals and also such an exchange could deepen the volunteers' understanding of local culture whilst improving the English skills of villagers. Tsunami Volunteer Center is involved in training villagers in the start-up of a home-stay business as well as teaching them how to be good English-speaking tour guides for the area.
These local people would be more aware of the natural resources found nearby and hence would make conscious efforts to conserve them. These local people would be running the home-stay program on their own whereby they would organise everything and redistribute the extra income earned from the tourists to the other villagers involved in their home-stay program.
